Sol‘Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun’, wrote Noël Coward, and this year the UK population is staggering underneath unusually hot summer sunshine. Whether home or abroad, always take care to protect skin from the suns rays. Cover up or use a high factor sunscreen when the sun is at its strongest, find shade and drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Ach, you know all this; here’s my homeopathic tip if all that sun care gets forgotten…

Sunburn: Over-exposure causing skin to become red, tender and blistered.

Cantharis 30C taken after a day of over-exposure may help to reduce the chances of burning. If sunburn is severe take three times a day for 2 days.

Sol 6C is more for those who burn easily and are sun-sensitive, i.e. they get headaches from too much sun. If sunburnt, try three doses daily for 3 days.

Belladonna

Belladonna

Belladonna 30C may help those where the skin feels hot, burnt and may throb. The sunburn may accompany signs of sunstroke, e.g. nausea, vomiting, weakness, delirium and a throbbing headache.

Aloe Vera gel used directly on the skin may help to relieve pain of sunburn.

N.B. If you suspect someone has sunstroke give re-hydration solution in water or a salty drink like Bovril to counteract the loss of fluids and get them to lie down. If symptoms persist seek advice from a health or medical practitioner.
