It’s supposed to turn very cold this week. Winter is coming. Time to layer up and keep warm. My husband reckons the cold months are ‘cosy’. He’s from Sweden and whilst its freezing there, I’d argue that it’s not a damp cold like here. He’d argue i’m just better at talking about the weather 🙂

Anyhow, this is usually when the change of weather cold & ‘flu symptoms kick in. If you are affected, flooding your system with Vitamin C, resting when (and if) you can and drinking plenty of fluids can all help your body to restore its energy.

Taking one of the following homeopathic remedies every 3 hours during a bad cold may help your symptoms:

Gelsemium

Gelsemium

Gelsemium 30C for when you have no thirst, your body feels very heavy, your head aches and you feel very weak and you’re trembling.

Rhus Tox 30C for if you got sick after getting rained on and you have a fever; your muscles feel stiff and achy but you want to move and shift around constantly.

Bryonia 30C for if you are really thirsty, feel very irritable and just want to be left alone and all your symptoms are worse when you move even slightly.

Aconite 30C for if your cold came on quickly after being out in a bracing cold wind.

If symptoms persist, seek professional advice.

Sol‘Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun’, wrote Noël Coward, and boy is it hotting up this week. Whether home or abroad, always take care to protect skin from the suns rays. Cover up or use a high factor sunscreen when the sun is at its strongest, find shade and drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

Ach, you know all this; here’s my homeopathic tip if all that sun care gets forgotten…

SunburnOver-exposure causing skin to become red, tender and blistered.

Cantharis 30C taken after a day of over-exposure may help to reduce the chances of burning. If sunburn is severe take three times a day for 2 days.

Sol 6C is more for those who burn easily and are sun-sensitive, i.e. they get headaches from too much sun. If sunburnt, try three doses daily for 3 days.

Belladonna

Belladonna

Belladonna 30C may help those where the skin feels hot, burnt and may throb. The sunburn may accompany signs of sunstroke, e.g. nausea, vomiting, weakness, delirium and a throbbing headache.

Aloe Vera gel used directly on the skin may help to relieve pain of sunburn.

N.B. If you suspect someone has sunstroke give re-hydration solution in water or a salty drink like Bovril to counteract the loss of fluids and get them to lie down. If symptoms persist seek advice from a health or medical practitioner.

Hi, no it’s not special is it? It’s just plain annoying. For those living in big cities, are you finding you’re developing hay fever symptoms despite never having experienced them before? This can be a over-response of the immune system to foreign matter and general toxicity which is worse in summer. I’m also finding that more of you are turning to alternative treatments when antihistimines cause drowsiness or are ineffective in regular doses. Constitutional homeopathic treatment aims to balance your immune system and is best started before high pollen season.

Euphrasia officinalis

Euphrasia officinalis

For now, Euphrasia Tincture may help your eyes with the burning/stinging sensation. Put 2-3 drops in a wine glass of clean water and soak them in the solution. The following homeopathic remedies may help to ease hay fever symptoms affecting both eyes and noses and should be taken 3 times daily for 14 days.

Allium cepa 6c where eyes are itching, watery and there’s lots of sneezing.*

Natrum Muriaticum 6c where the nose is running constantly (like you want to stick tissues up it) but the eyes are dry and gritty.

Allium Cepa

Allium Cepa

Allium cepa is a remedy made from onions. One of the best examples of homeopathic principle that a substance which causes symptoms in a well person can cure those who are suffering from such symptoms.

Find a homeopathHello! 14-21st June is Homeopathy Awareness Week. Here are some of the FACTS about Homeopathy as laid out in Find A Homeopath website:

  • Homeopathy has never been more popular and millions use it worldwide. 15% of the British population have said they use it and rely on its health benefits.
  • Homeopathy has been used successfully on babies, young children and animals. In these cases the patients have no idea what medication they are taking, so the placebo argument does not hold.
  • When used appropriately homeopathy is extremely safe as it produces no dangerous side-effects and can be used in conjunction with conventional medicines. In comparison the European Commission estimated in 2008 that adverse reactions to conventional drugs kill 197,000 EU citizens each year.
  • A clinical evidence survey carried out by the British Medical Journal found that out of 3,000 medical treatments provided on the NHS, 50% were classified as having ‘unknown effectiveness’.
  • There IS scientific evidence supporting homeopathy as an effective medical therapy. Of 163 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) in homeopathy more have been positive (67) than negative (11). RCTs are seen as the ‘Gold’ standard for proof of medical efficacy.

‘Highdilutions of something are not nothing. They are water structures which mimic the original molecules. It’s not pseudoscience. It’s not quackery. These are real phenomena which deserve further study.’

Professor Luc Montagnier, French virologist and Nobel Laureat, speaking in 2010
